Water

The Cannon River, a State Wild and Scenic River, flows through the heart of Northfield and is a connector for the community.  Fishing and paddling are valued recreational activities.  Protecting and restoring this river and it’s tributaries as well as protecting groundwater are focus areas for the groups listed below.

City of Northfield

The Water Division provides safe, potable water to over 18,000 people in over 5,000 homes and businesses in Northfield. The City of Northfield takes an active role in managing stormwater run-off in flood prevention, erosion control, and to reduce pollution of our local waterways.

Rice County Environmental Services

Identifying water related issues and implementing studies developing strategies to protect and maintain the water resources of Rice County; and is to administer the Rice County Comprehensive Local Water Plan.

Rice Soil & Water Conservation District

The Rice Soil and Water Conservation District’s mission is to assist local landusers in the management and conservation of soil and water resources by means of educational, financial and technical assistance.
