Master Recycler/Composter Program Summary  

The City of Northfield, River Bend Nature Center and Carleton College are hosting the pilot round of the Master Recycler/Composter program. 

​​​​​Meet others who are excited about waste reduction and have the chance to inspire others to help reduce waste in Northfield. Over a 6-week period with one class each week, participants hear presentations from local and regional experts on waste reduction, recycling, composting and solid waste and go on field trips to relevant sites

The main teaching points will be:

  1. 3Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle) 
  2. Composting 
  3. Teaching program participants how to teach and present to groups

 Dates:

  • Saturdays, February 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th 
  • Saturdays, March 5th, 12th 

Time: 10:00 am – 12:00 pm 

Location: In Northfield at Carleton College, Weitz Center for Creativity, classroom WCC230, 320 3rd St. E, Northfield, MN 55057

Cost – There is no fee for the course.

This program is open to residents/college students of Northfield.  Please select City and State when completing the application. 

To ensure a positive learning experience and adequate support for volunteers, class size is limited to 20 people on a first-come, first-served basis. All applicants will receive notification of their status in the class and next steps. A waiting list is available. ​

River Bend Nature Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that specializes in environmental education, outdoor recreation and natural resource conservation. The Nature Center includes 743 acres of original and restored natural lands with over ten miles of trails that are open to the public 365 days per year.
