General Notes
- Zero Waste California notes that donating poor-quality, damaged, or stained goods can be harmful—rather than helpful. Many donations end up overseas, where markets can become flooded with secondhand items. It’s better to upcycle the poor-quality goods you have.
- Please do not donate unusable clothing. Textiles with holes, rips, etc. will likely not be used; donating such articles of clothing can place a burden on those downstream to sort through and discard them.
- Zero Waste California also offers instructions about how to donate or upcycle what are traditionally hard-to-donate items, like shoes and pantyhose.
